ANZAC day time-trial, lest
we forget
To the line I stepped with solemn creed
That I would skate with utmost speed
That animal inside me said
“You should have stayed at home in bed”
But none could curb my heart’s desire
To leave the track all but on fire
So ‘tween the fluro orange lines
My skates were placed
I looked up and saw the corner nigh
Looked down to see the leg-rate high
I stepped, I crossed, I stepped again
I came out the first bend and then
The fury in my arm swing showed
No, my cadence could no be slowed
And as I neared the second corner
I swung out wide
Into the banking dip I dove
The legs beneath me, hard I drove
My arms were feeling numbness now
Apparent weight felt like a cow
Through final corner turn and twist
My hands now clenched into a fist
I drove my legs at speed beneath me
Towards the line
And as the fluro line drew near
I perished from my heart all fear
I conjured up the blood and might
To lend my left foot extra flight
It, through the air did duck and weave
My right foot gave it extra speed
I crossed the line, then hit the deck
Dulce et decorum est, pro patria mori
