Policymakers, WelcomeWhat children and young people know and do related to water, environment, and energy is a resource that programme planners have yet to tap to any great extent. Moreover, this is the next generation of water users and managers at the household and community level. The capacity of these young people to practice safe and healthy hygiene behaviours and to manage and maintain local water resources effectively is absolutely vital to the sector. The Environmental Education Resource Pack for Child Friendly Schools integrates facilities based solutions with curriculum, participatory tools, and community interventions to address local environmental conditions which are increasingly stressed by climate change, desertification and loss of biodiversity. It is intended to facilitate and support progress towards MDGs 2 [Achieve Universal Primary Education], 3 [Promote Gender Equality] and 7 [Ensure Environmental Sustainability] as well as to address priorities as outlined in the Article 6 of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change [Education, Advocacy and Outreach] toward adaptation and mitigation of risk.
