Ferro-Cement Tanks
Tanks for storage of smaller quantities of water can also be built in the “Ferro-cement Technique”:
- The base needs to be built rigid and should be raised at least ½ m above ground level.
- The core shuttering (inside of the tank wall) must be firm and can be made of various materials (sheet metal, wooden planks etc.)
- After the first layer of cement is applied, the steel reinforcement (wire mesh) is placed and secured to vertical reinforcement bars equally spaced around the outside of the first cement layer.
- When the reinforcement is fixed, a second layer of cement can be applied
