Ecosan Systems - Highland 1 2 3 4
At high altitude, urine diversion is usually not necessary since natural evaporation eliminates excess humidity. A handful of sawdust and/or ash can be added after defecation in order to support the dehydration process. Moreover, a solar heater can also minimize wetness. A solar heater can, for example, be a black metal sheet on top of the excreta storage chambers, inclined and facing south.
Here are a few examples of ecosan systems appropriate in the highland climate:
- The double-vault dehydrating toilet (Mexico)
- The double-vault solar heated toilet (Ecuador)
- The indoor dehydrating toilet (Ladakh, India)
