How to Set Up a School Garden
It is important to involve children, teachers and parents in the planning of a school garden. If the most important contributors are involved in the school garden from the beginning, they are likely to follow the project with more interest. They may also be eager to take responsibility and actively contribute to the garden.
1. Define the objectives of the garden
2. Get support
3. Decide what to grow
4. Find an appropriate garden site
5. Prepare the site
6. Prepare an action plan
7. Put the plan into practice
This chapter is based on the FAO manual Setting up and running a school garden, FAO 2005.
